Document Translator

Translate a complete PDF, Word document, text file, or Markdown file instead of copying it a section at a time. Upload your file to get a translated copy back, with paragraphs kept in order. PDF and Word uploads download as editable Word documents; text and Markdown downloads stay in plain text.

Supported document formats

PDF

PDF files are converted into an editable Word document. Pages with a text layer are translated in place; pages without selectable text in mixed PDFs are transcribed by AI, and you are told which pages to check.

Word (.docx)

Translate a Word document and download the translated Word copy. Paragraphs are translated in place so document structure and formatting are retained where supported.

Text and Markdown

Plain-text (.txt) and Markdown (.md) files are translated paragraph by paragraph and downloaded as plain-text files.

How document translation works

  1. Choose the source and target languages, then upload a PDF, Word, text, or Markdown file.
  2. The service reads the document and translates its text in ordered sections. Larger files may take a little longer, and progress appears while the translation runs.
  3. Download the translated copy when the job is complete. PDF and Word files are delivered as editable .docx files.

File limits and what to expect

A file can contain up to 5,000 words or 10 PDF pages. Word documents without a reliable page count are checked by word count. Scanned pages in a PDF that also has selectable text can be transcribed, so review the result for recognition errors. If an individual paragraph cannot be translated, it stays in the original language and the download reports how many paragraphs were affected.

When to use a document translator

Use document translation for reports, drafts, notes, and other files you want to keep as a downloadable copy. For a sentence, message, or short excerpt, the online text translator is faster. This AI translation is a useful starting point, not a certified translation; have a qualified translator review legal, medical, or other high-stakes documents.

Document translation questions

Which document formats can I translate?

The document translator accepts PDF, Word (.docx), plain text (.txt), and Markdown (.md) files. PDF and Word files are returned as editable Word documents; text and Markdown files are returned as plain text.

Can I translate a scanned PDF?

Pages without selectable text can be transcribed by an AI model when they appear alongside pages with selectable text. A PDF made entirely of scanned pages is not supported. The download identifies transcribed pages, so check them for recognition errors.

How large can a document be?

A document can contain up to 5,000 words. PDFs also have a 10-page limit. A Word file's page count is not always available, so the word limit applies when its page count cannot be confirmed.

How long are uploaded files kept?

The uploaded file and translated copy are kept temporarily to run the translation and let you download the result. The job and files are automatically deleted after two hours.

Is the translation suitable for official or high-stakes documents?

AI translation can help you understand or prepare a document, but it is not certified. Have a qualified human translator review legal, medical, or other high-stakes content before relying on it.
